The National Alumni Coalition
of Black Boarding and Private schools

P

lease allow this letter to introduce you to The National Alumni Coalition of Black Boarding and Private Schools (NAC), for which we are seeking your support. The NAC is a newly formed organization founded by John Franklin who is a graduate of Boggs Academy one of the black boarding secondary schools located in Keysville, Georgia. The school was founded in 1906 by the Presbyterian Church USA and officially closed after 80 years of service in 1986. Boggs Academy, and other schools like it, was founded to provide spiritual nourishment, academic enrichment, and a new vision for young African American students.

The mission of NAC is focused on perpetuating the legacies and histories of the schools that have closed and to promote the ones that remain open and viable. Beyond these very important goals the long term plan is to create and maintain an online national learning center fully sponsored, supported and managed by the members of this organization. Using this platform we will be able to reach youth where they are to provide teaching, tutoring, training and counseling.

The membership of this organization will be composed of alumni, family, friends and anyone who shares our commitment to perpetuate our histories, legacies, goals and ideals.  Through attrition our alumni association’s numbers are dwindling; therefore we must make every effort to attract new members to assist us in our efforts to keep the legacies alive and well. Membership in this organization is crucial now and to our future as a people. If you have become a member, we thank you and look forward to working with you to accomplish our goals. If you are not a member, we ask you to visit the website (see below) and support us by joining or donating financially and by spreading the word.

Communications will be primarily via eMail, so it is imperative that you give us an active and monitored eMail address for our records which will remain within the organization.  In the future there will be a newsletter published monthly to keep our members informed and engaged. Please know that your suggestions and concerns are very important to us, so please do not hesitate to let us know what you are thinking.

Warm regards,

John Franklin
