Dedrick Sims - Sims-Fayola International Academies, Inc

Dedrick Sims is the Executive Director/CEO of Sims-Fayola International Academies, Inc. Sims-Fayola International Academies, Inc. (www.simsfayola.com) will develop and manage 5th – 8th grade all-male academies for urban males using an International Baccalaureate curriculum. Previously, Mr. Sims served as the Chief Executive Officer/Founder of Zen Educational Consulting Group, which provided professional development to schools and educators serving a high minority student population on how to leverage a student’s culture when designing learning communities.

 

Dedrick Sims is also the author of  the book “Hardwired by Nature: What We as Educators Underestimate About Our Minority Students” as well as several published articles that focus on how a student’s culture and background affect their education.  Dedrick has served urban communities and students for over 10 years advancing through the education ranks.  Mr. Sims has served urban students as a Substitute, Teacher, Master Teacher, Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Principal/Dean, and Principal.

 

Mr. Sims is currently writing his dissertation on instructional strategies that increase student engagement in African American and Latino Males at the University of South Alabama.  Mr. Sims has also completed summer educational leadership programs at Harvard University and New York University.  He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
